Outlook from Commercial Vehicle show, birmingham 2018

Returning from the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, it’s just about time to summarise our impressions. In the VBG booth, except for our traditional products, we focused on seminars on the upcoming new revision of the R58 legislation and performance value calculation. But, let’s have a quick look at what others did at the CVS!

A taste of the future

The fair had an interesting variety and mix of traditional vehicle product presentations and a centrally located innovation centre, an "Innovation hub" for presentations and seminars.

The "Innovation hub" presented thoughts and aspects around future commercial vehicle businesses as electrification, autonomous vehicles, vehicle platforms and transport solutions.

It’s quite obvious that development is running at fast pace and that there’s a massive interest in new technology in transportation.

Any specific product trends?

Product-wise we made two specific reflections:

1. Vehicles

Distribution vehicles for ‘Last mile delivery’ were popular. Many builders demonstrated solutions and concepts for this. There seems to be an increasing market demand for this type of vehicles which also means that we can predict an increase in High Capacity Transportation demands, HCT as well - to bring goods between the distribution hubs.

 2. Gadgets

Cameras! Cameras for surveillance of goods. Cameras for vehicle manoeuvring assistance, and cameras for monitoring driver’s behaviour and warn if he’s not attentive to surrounding traffic. Obviously, these gadgets are finding their way into improving both convenience and safety for the driver.

We have all reason to follow and analyse the very fast technology development and the following products. Not the least since we at VBG are dedicated to using new technology for innovative solutions that improve safety and convenience not only for the driver but also for fleet managers, tech managers and mechanics. We’ll keep you posted!
